REGGIE WATTS is one of comedy's fastest-rising stars. His unique act involves
using his four-track loop pedal and a legit ability to create a cappella music to
improvise funk and R&B songs that are both hilarious and genuinely groovy.
Reggie was selected by Conan O'Brien to be his regular opening for the Legally
Prohibited From Appearing On Television Tour, and is a regular guest on TBS' Conan.
Reggie has also appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, HBO's The Yes Men
Save The World, PBS' The Electric Company, and starred as himself in a national
commercial for DieHard Battery. His one-hour special, Why Shit So Crazy? aired on
Comedy Central in 2010, and has been released as a CD/DVD set on Comedy Central
Records.
In 2010, Reggie was given a full-page profile in the New York Times, which said, "Sharp, wry and elusive … Reggie moves seamlessly from skits to songs to off- kilter
stand-up, while talking in a subway train full of accents." Rolling Stone put him on
their 2010 "Hot List," and Spin labeled him "2010's Best New Comedian."
Esquire included Reggie in their article, "Best & Brightest: New Geniuses Whose
Ideas Will Change The World," and in a recent profile, New York magazine described
Reggie Watts' act thusly; "…Watts took things to another level. Several times during
the set he broke into music—creating songs, layer by layer, using only his voice and
a little machine called a loop pedal… By the end of his set, he was doing whatever is
better than killing—double-homiciding, mass-murdering."
Reggie is an award-winning act, having received the UK's prestigious Malcolm
Hardy "Oy Oy" award in 2005, the Andy Kaufman alt. comedy award in 2006, and
the 2009 Excellence in Comedy NY Award for Best Musical Comedy Act.Reggie is also a staple of the international comedy scene, having made multiple
appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Melbourne Comedy Festival, the
Montreal Comedy Festival, the Sydney Comedy Festival, and headlining shows in
Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne, Madrid, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Melbourne, Cape Town
and Rekjavik.
We think you'll agree with musician/producer Brian Eno when he said, "Reggie
Watts is a most unusual talent: a huge vocal range, a natural musicality, and a
sidesplitting wit. Is he a comedian? A singer? A performance artist? I've seen him a
few times since then and I still can't decide. Whatever, he ain't like nobody else."
